A major firm has made a generous donation to boost access to skills, education and training at Teesworks and across our region.
Family-run MGL Group has taken on a huge range of civil engineering and demolition projects across Teesworks and Teesside.
Now the company’s charitable arm, MGL Foundation Trust, has donated a minibus to take young people and those looking for roles to training and skills opportunities at Teesworks and the wider region with the support of the Teesside Airport Foundation.
North-East based MGL was a contractor on the framework to manage the extensive demolition projects at the former Redcar Steelworks, and is currently part of the delivery team for the world’s largest monopile factory on behalf of SeAH Wind, at South Bank.
The minibus will enhance accessibility for learners at the Teesworks Skills Academy.
Gillian Reader, Director at MGL Group, said: “We are thrilled to partner with Teesworks and contribute to their mission of empowering the Tees Valley workforce through skills development and training.
“With the significant number of opportunities being created, it is crucial that local workers have the necessary skills to seize these prospects.
“Education holds the key to unlocking potential and creating a brighter future. By providing a minibus, we aim to enhance accessibility and ensure that everybody can reach their full potential.”
Teesworks Ltd chairman Chris Musgrave said: “We are grateful to MGL Group for this generous donation which will make a real difference to learners looking to progress at Teesworks Skills Academy.
“One of the key driving forces behind the Teesworks development is to create high quality jobs and opportunities for local people on Teesside and this donation will help play an important part in this.”
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “It is essential we provide local people with the best opportunities to take advantage of the well-paid skilled jobs we are creating on Teesworks.
“MGL Group are a titan of a firm in the North East – and we’re delighted they’ve made this wonderful gesture.
“Their generosity will be paid back many fold in the shape of new jobs for our future generations by ensuring our workers and young people get the training and skills they need through the Teesworks Skills Academy.”
The collaboration between MGL Group, Teesside Airport Foundation and Teesworks is part of shared commitment to driving economic growth, enhancing job prospects, and fostering a prosperous future in Teesside.
The Airport Foundation has played a key role in bringing the minibus project to fruition.
Brian Robinson, Trustee at the Teesside Airport Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support this project to help ensure more people get access to the training, skills and job opportunities they need.
“The Foundation was set up to help more people realise their ambitions in education, employment and assisting the regeneration of our area. This minibus, with the help of MGL, will help us do just that.”
