The Site

A diverse, multi-sector setting, bringing together industry leaders to power Britain’s carbon capture capital.

Once home to the world’s largest steel manufacturer, Teesworks is a new chapter for the place that built the world. This diverse, multi-sector setting, will bring together industry leaders to power Britain’s carbon capture capital.

Following a demolition programme which has taken just over two years rather than the five initially thought, parcels of land have now been unlocked for remediation and redevelopment so we can look to the future. Construction of SeAH Wind Ltd’s £450million offshore wind monopile manufacturing facility is now under way, with other sites earmarked for the £1.5bn Net Zero Teesside project and £150million Circular Fuels waste to renewable fuel facility.

The site itself offers immediate connectivity to Teesport, the North Sea, Europe and beyond, unlocking global markets for sustainable innovators and global pioneers. Modern manufacturing combined with renewable activity and the clean energy sector will empower a resilient industrial cluster that’s at the centre of a high value and inclusive circular economy for the Tees Valley. A welcoming local authority also makes Teesworks prime location for large scale modern industry, innovative manufacturing and global distribution.

More than £246million of funding has already been secured to help deliver the major demolition project necessary to kick-start site remediation, with devolved powers to retain business rates and use them to further develop the site.

Overseeing the site’s transformation is Teesworks Ltd, a joint venture private sector partnership between JC Musgrave Capital and Northern Land Management, supported by the South Tees Development Corporation. This is being delivered alongside a strong alignment with local, regional and national Government, including its Industrial Strategy, Northern Powerhouse and Levelling Up initiatives.

It sits at the heart of the Teesside Freeport, the UK’s largest and first operational Freeport, which offers a series of tax and customs incentives to businesses looking to locate on-site.
