Watch Again – Construction Starts on SeAH Wind’s $400million Offshore Facility

On July 7 2022 construction officially began on SeAH Wind Ltd’s £400million offshore wind monopile manufacturing facility at Teesworks, the UK’s largest industrial zone.  This development not only represented the first private sector-led investment taking place on the Teesworks site and within the Teesside Freeport, but also the first ever such project in any UK Freeport.

When complete, the mammoth 1.13million sq ft facility will be the biggest of its kind in the world and is expected to produce between 100 and 150 monopiles per year, which will be transported from the factory to Teesworks’ under-construction heavy lify South Bank Quay before heading to the North Sea for installation. The project will create 750 jobs when operational, with a further 1,500 in the supply chain during construction.

To mark the occasion, Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen welcomed the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP and representatives from SeAH Wind – including the President & CEO of SeAH Steel Holdings Joosung Lee for presentations, a Signing Ceremony and question and answer session.
